Jambo Inn Hotel and restaurant

A Look Back at a Dar es Salaam Classic: The Jambo Inn Hotel

For many years, the Jambo Inn Hotel was a landmark of hospitality in Dar es Salaam. Located on Libya Street, the hotel was a popular choice for travelers seeking comfortable and affordable accommodation. Its reputation for excellent hospitality and a friendly atmosphere made it a go-to spot for both locals and tourists alike.

According to a historical listing on WhizzTanzania, the hotel could be found at Libya Street, P.O.Box 5588, Dar es Salaam, with a contact number of +255 222 110 686. It was part of a vibrant area with several other guesthouses, as noted in discussions on Tripadvisor's Dar es Salaam Forum.

The hotel's history, dating back to the 1980s, is highlighted on 123Tanzania. It was known for its "economical prices, excellent hospitality, [and] friendly atmosphere."

While the hotel served many travelers over the decades, a Tripadvisor forum post from 2012 suggests that the hotel may have ceased operations in July of that year.

Even though the doors of the Jambo Inn Hotel may have closed, its legacy lives on in the memories of those who stayed there and in the online records that tell its story. The Jambo name, however, is still associated with hospitality in other locations, such as the Jambo Seafood Restaurant in Paje and the New Jambo Bungalows and Restaurant in Zanzibar, as noted in various travel resources.

We hope this glimpse into the past brings back fond memories for anyone who experienced the charm of the Jambo Inn Hotel.
